Interestingly the softer soap powders like Dreft and filletti are in fact biological.

If your wife is insistent on using the non bio powder why not use it for all your washing - just be prepared to use more than just one cycle on the machine! Using non bio you will need to use some of the hotter cycles to remove stains.

Cold fill only machines benefit from the "bio action" of the biological powder as they gradually heat up the water so get the benefit of the enzymes and if on a hot wash will build up the heat till the enezymes are nolonger working but your getting more a bleaching action this way you get better wash results and need less agitation. This is how cold fill machines are getting the higher ratings

4 years agoBoth non bio and bio powder have the bleaching agent in them unless they state specifically for coloureds - Dreft has no bleach in it but is biological. The bleaching agent is more active at hotter temperatures whilst enzymes in biological powder is more active in warm water but are killed off in too hot water. When biological powder was brought out is was stated as all wash temp powder as it washes at cool temp using the enzyme action and hot temp using more a bleaching action. Coloureds are washed cool so less bleached whites washed hot so benefit from more bleaching.
